Dr. Rodney N. Tolbert

Meet Our Founder

Dr. Rodney N. Tolbert, Sr., was born on January 13, 1962 to Mr. Horace B. Eaglin and Ms. Mary D. Tolbert of Beaumont, Texas. He graduated from Beaumont Charlton Pollard High School in May 1980.

He entered the United States Naval Service in June 1980, where he excelled in the field of Communications. Within 12 years of service, he was recommended for a commission as Naval Communications Officer. In 1991, during the Persian Gulf War, he was assigned to the USS Tripoli LPH-10 which was instrumental during Operation Desert Storm, Desert Shield and Desert Slash.

Upon completion of this year long assignment, he received the following medals: Navy Achievement Medal, Naval Good Conduct Medal (with Bronze Star), Southwest Asia Medal (with 3 Bronze Stars), Persian Gulf Medal, Two Kuwait Liberation Medals and many other awards and citations. He completed his naval career assigned to the Joint Chief of Staff, Pentagon, Washington DC, under the command of General Colin Powell, Chairman of the Joint Chief of Staff.

After completion of his naval career, the Lord blessed him to serve in another capacity; he was called and licensed into the Ministry of the Gospel on March 29, 1992 at Olive Branch Baptist Church of Portsmouth, Virginia, under the leadership of Dr. James B. Sharp and subsequently ordained on December 5, 1997 under the leadership of Dr. Jesse E. Featherston of Trinity Faith Centre of Chesapeake, Virginia.

On May 22, 1994, he received his Master of Science Degree in Theology and on May 27, 2001 he received his Doctor of Philosophy in Theology from Trinity Missions University.

Dr. Tolbert married Sandra Hughes (now Sandra Hughes-Tolbert) out of this union the Lord blessed them with 4 children; Chandrea, Rodney Jr., Jasmine and Jamin.

Strategy for Effective Living Ministry was established in San Antonio, Texas, to help individuals who were in need of spiritual guidance and spiritual enlightenment for everyday living.

Memberships and Associations

In addition to being the leader of our ministry, Dr. Tolbert is associated with many other groups and organizations. He is an active member of the Baptist Pastor’s Fellowship Detroit and Vicinity, MaComb Veterans Action Collaborative, and OneMacomb.

He has also done work with the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) in Michigan. In the past, Dr. Tolbert was the past president of the local NAACP branch. He is currently an active member of the branch in Macomb County.
